Sage Guide Tours

Mexico Pricing and Policies

This is a great year to explore our world! Not only are economic conditions keeping prices lower, the dollar is also doing well against the Mexican peso, and best of all...a new tour company is offering great and unique experiences without charging big prices like the big guys do.

$1,700 is the pre-estimated price of our Mexico trip (18 days in central Mexico, along the Gulf Coast, and in the Yucatán Peninsula).
Driver discount: -$470
Single supplement: +$530

The price for each group will be calculated based on dates, lodging and activities preferences, etc. After communicating your desires for these things, an estimate of costs can be given fairly quickly.

Note that we will place single travelers together with other single travelers of the same gender so that everyone who so desires can enjoy inexpensive lodging in double rooms with two beds. Those requiring single rooms will pay the single supplement.

At this time, we are unable to offer special discounted prices, such as those for seniors, children, or veterans.

The deadline to pay your tour cost in full is 5:00 pm Mountain Time six weeks before the date of your departure, but it is highly recommended to pay as early as you know that you would like to reserve a place on one of our tours.

Tour groups with 4-12 participants can be accommodated. Larger groups are possible if some travelers are willing to drive extra vehicles. Smaller groups may see slightly higher prices per person, perhaps in the range of a few hundred dollars more. You will be informed by the payment deadline about the actual cost, and if the increased cost is not satisfactory, you will have three days to request a full refund.

AIRFARE

You can arrange your own air transportation and meet us at the León Bajío Airport or in Guanajuato. Specific suggestions for convenient flights and good prices will be offered. Be sure to coordinate schedules and arrangements with Sage Guide Tours before you purchase any air tickets.

Many other tour companies offer bus tours with 35 to 45 passengers to the standard tourist sights of Mexico that range from $120 to $200 per day for the land package, and many of these tours are more basic and not as interesting as Sage Guide tours and end up having more extra costs for activities and attractions that are not included in the price. The less expensive tours generally stay in cookie-cutter American-style chain hotels and travel mostly on major highways in buses with 40-50 passengers.

Now take a look at the itinerary and activities on a Sage Guide tour for comparison!

DRIVERS AND TOUR DIRECTORS

Soon there will be a link here with details about the driver opportunities, including information about benefits, requirements, and duties.

In the future, when tour directors are needed to lead our tours, they will receive their land package and airfare completely paid. You could escort a tour one time, or you could become a regular guide with Sage Guide Tours. These are independent contractor positions, not employment, and do not offer a salary, only travel benefits. Write to us if you might be interested in being a tour director sometime in the future.

UNIQUE BENEFITS

These are some of the unique benefits of participating in a Sage Guide tour:

  • MULTILINGUAL LDS TOUR GUIDE WITH MUCH WORLD RESIDENCE AND TRAVEL EXPERIENCE
  • THE ABILITY TO INFLUENCE THE FINAL ITINERARY
THE ABILITY TO DEVIATE FROM THE PLAN WHEN SOMETHING INTERESTING APPEARS
  • SMALL GROUPS TRAVELING FAMILY-STYLE IN FLEXIBLE RENTED CARS
  • OFF-THE-AUTOPISTA ROUTES THAT ARE GENUINELY INTERESTING
  • CHOICE OF TWO MUSEUMS OR OTHER ATTRACTIONS ON SOME DAYS
  • GETTING TO KNOW THE LOCAL PEOPLE AND THEIR WAY OF LIFE
  • "MI CASA ES TU CASA" (THE WARM WELCOME OF THE MEXICANS)
  • THE OPTION OF SAVING MONEY BY NOT PARTICIPATING IN CERTAIN ACTIVITIES
  • NO ROUNDING UP OF THE PRICES, HIDDEN COSTS, OR OVERSIZED TOUR COMPANY PROFITS
  • NO UNFRIENDLY LEGALESE OR SMALL PRINT
  • MANY UNIQUE AND MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES WITHOUT THE HIGH PRICE OR UNFRIENDLINESS OF BIG COMPANIES

SAVING MONEY BY OPTING OUT OF CERTAIN ACTIVITIES

You may choose not to participate in certain paid activities, and the exact price of those activities will be deducted from the amount you are asked to pay for your tour. Should you then decide that you do want to participate in one of these declined activities when you are on location with us, you are more than welcome to pay for your own ticket at that point, although you may miss out on group discounts or availability in some cases.

Here are the places you can opt out of that will result in a lower price for your tour:

  • ANY OF THE MUSEUMS, ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES, OR OTHER ATTRACTIONS WITH AN ENTRANCE FEE (INCL. ASSOCIATED GUIDE FEES)
  • SPECIAL EVENTS

Note that it is possible that the tour prices may vary somewhat between now and the day you pay for your trip, but after you pay in full, the price will not go up and you could only receive refunds based on favorable exchange rates on the day you pay.

WHAT IS
NOT INCLUDED

  • AIRFARE (ALTHOUGH SPECIAL PRICES WILL BE OFFERED FROM CERTAIN AIRPORTS)
  • MEALS OTHER THAN MOST BREAKFASTS AND SOME SNACKS
  • SOUVENIRS AND OTHER PERSONAL PURCHASES
  • OPTIONAL TIPS
  • RECOMMENDED TRAVEL INSURANCE FOR TRIP CANCELLATION OR INTERRUPTION

A details sheet will be made available upon request.
This will help you know exactly what will and will not be included in your tour price.

PLANNING FOR UNEXPECTED ISSUES

Our simple cancellation policy is this:
Whenever you cancel a tour reservation after having paid in full, you will receive a refund of those monies that have not yet been spent on your behalf. Tour guide service fees are not refundable after the payment deadline. Note that some large expenses, such as those for lodging, will be paid more than one month before departure and cannot then be refunded. We recommend that you do not reserve a place if you are not sure about your plans, and if something unforeseen does come up, contact us immediately so we can avoid as much as possible spending money on your behalf that may become non-refundable. Travel insurance could be of use to some people.

Each traveler is responsible for having a passport (generally valid for 3 to 6 months after the end of your tour) and for any visa issues. U.S. citizens will not need visas for the countries we will visit, but citizens of other nations may.

Minors need to be accompanied by at least one parent or legal guardian, and proper paperwork needs to accompany any minor who is not with both of his or her parents.

Even in a small group, there will be times when things don't always go exactly the way you wish they would. Your tour director will do everything reasonably possible to help create the best experience, so go to him or her if you have any needs or concerns. Anyone who breaks laws, uses illegal drugs, cigarettes, or alcohol, is disruptive, or otherwise causes unpleasantness may be asked to leave the tour with no refund other than a refund after the end of the tour of any amounts that did not need to be spent on his or her behalf. The return air ticket may be able to be used by such a passenger, but change fees may be necessary which would be the passenger's responsability.

Why go with a friendly, small group like this one?

There are a million* details that your experienced tour director will handle for you. Planning and organization of your tour began many months ago. And yet you will be getting these services as well as a knowledgeable tour guide for the entire length of your tour for not much more than the cost of doing it yourself. And if you paid yourself minimum wage to take care of all of the details, you would be more expensive than the Sage Guide!

*This may be a slight exaggeration.
